Abstract

35 year old woman who has complicated psychodynamics and interesting reasons of shoplifting was reported. She was a fascinating married woman who came to our hospital because of repetitive shoplifting since she was a late teenager. After 5 preliminary sessions she agreed to do insight oriented psychotherapy twice a week. We had a hard time until we decided to finish our works with a successful achievement through a total 101 sessions. Because she didn¡¯t know why she felt extreme pleasure during shoplifting and despaired of being immoral just after shoplifting. We could discover her psychodynamics by her movable aggressions and metamorphic transferences. Eventually we realized there were several meanings of her ritual shoplifting£º1) robbing father from harsh mother as revenge, 2) a symbol of love that should be given but deprived in her early age, 3) a response to depression on her gloomy days. Finally we would like to add two prior conditions of someone becoming a kleptomaniac. One is low self esteem and another is the loosening of the parents¡¯ relationship.
